Abstract

This study examined job satisfaction among frontline employees at the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, focusing on the impact of various demographic variables. Using a descriptive research method, data were collected from 178 employees through Paul Spector's Job Satisfaction Survey. The demographic profile revealed a diverse group, with most respondents aged 26-31, followed by those aged 32-37 and 20-25. The gender distribution was slightly skewed towards females. Most respondents were married, with single and widowed individuals also represented. Educational attainment was high, predominantly college graduates, with some holding master’s degrees and a few having other qualifications or doctorates. Employment status varied: many held permanent positions, while others were contractual or casual employees. Many respondents had 1-3 years of service, indicating a relatively young workforce in terms of tenure. The study found that many employees felt ambivalent about their jobs, indicating mixed feelings and uncertainty regarding job satisfaction. Some employees expressed satisfaction and positive emotions towards their work, while a smaller number reported dissatisfaction and unhappiness. The study concluded that age is a significant determinant of job satisfaction among these employees, whereas other demographic factors do not have a substantial impact. This suggests that age-specific interventions may be necessary to improve job satisfaction, addressing the unique needs and expectations of different age groups. Additionally, the findings emphasize the importance of considering other organizational and job-related factors that might influence employee satisfaction beyond demographic characteristics.
