Abstract
This study was theorized to determine the work immersion readiness, performance, and issues of Senior High School students in their work immersion in Tuao District. A mixed-method design particularly explanatory sequential was used by integrating data from both quantitative and qualitative sources. The participants of the study were the 286 grade 11 students were selected from all secondary schools in Tuao District using stratified random sampling. Work Immersion Readiness Tool and Work Immersion Performance Appraisal Tool were the main instruments of the study. Data were collected, tallied, summarized and interpreted using statistical tools in order to answer questions posted in the statement of the problem. The results demonstrated that work immersion students were proficiently ready to start their work immersion. They also showed outstanding performance in their respective work immersion venues as they were rated outstanding by various partner institutions where they were assigned. Also, qualitative data which were summarize using thematic analysis revealed that issues on difficulty in going to the work immersion venues and tasks given to them were not what they were expected to be were raised by students during the focus group discussion while work immersion teachers presented students’ lack of technical skills and knowledge to perform expected tasks and unimplemented activities in pre-immersion, during immersion and post immersion due to time constraints. Meanwhile, partner institutions highlighted the need to supervise immersion students most of the time and students’ attendance and difficulty of handling five immersion students at a time were their principal issues. Furthermore, based on the results, partner Institutions’ evaluation was also revealed that senior high school work immersion is highly effective in enhancing the social development of senior high school graduates. It is recommended that the program must be sustained and welcome enhancement if necessary. Lastly, the work immersion pre-deployment plan is being suggested to address problems indicated by the study's findings, to benefit the school, work immersion partners, and, most importantly, work immersion students in Tuao District.References
