Abstract
Computer laboratories play a vital role in supporting technology-based learning; however, their management often relies on manual processes, resulting in inefficiencies in attendance monitoring, resource utilization, and security controls. This study developed and evaluated an Interactive Lab Management System (ILMS) designed to enhance the management of computer laboratories at Cagayan State University–Carig Campus. The system integrates biometric fingerprint authentication, automated attendance monitoring, intelligent power control, real-time laboratory monitoring, and a centralized administrative dashboard to improve operational efficiency, accountability, and security. A multi-method research design involving observation, interviews, document analysis, system development, and testing was employed to identify existing laboratory management challenges and guide system development. The ILMS was implemented and evaluated by faculty members, administrative personnel, and students who regularly use laboratory facilities. System quality was assessed using the ISO/IEC 25010 Software Quality Model, with a focus on functional suitability, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability, portability, compatibility, and security. Evaluation results revealed a very high extent of compliance across all quality characteristics, with an overall mean rating of 4.47, indicating strong user acceptance and system effectiveness. The findings demonstrate that the ILMS successfully addresses issues related to inaccurate attendance recording, unauthorized laboratory access, inefficient resource management, and excessive energy consumption. By automating critical laboratory processes and providing real-time monitoring, the system reduces administrative workload while promoting accountability and sustainable resource use. The study concludes that the ILMS is a reliable, secure, and scalable solution that supports the university’s Smart Campus initiative and contributes to the modernization of laboratory management practices in higher education institutions.
